Vinay Prasad on Randomized Trials Measuring Appropriate Endpoints: recommends

What Prasad says

Dr. Vinay Prasad recommends that the FDA demand randomized trials measuring appropriate endpoints before approving drugs. He says the agency currently “rubber stamps too many useless products.” The position comes from his Substack (November 2024), quoted by The Cancer Letter in May 2025 coverage of his appointment.

His stated reasoning

Prasad’s stated reasoning is that too many approvals rest on weak or surrogate evidence, letting products of dubious value onto the market. Insisting on randomized trials with patient-meaningful endpoints, he says, would filter out the products that don’t actually help patients.
