Robert Lustig on Fermented Foods: recommends
Dr. Robert Lustig recommends eating fermented foods such as kefir, sauerkraut, and plain yogurt with live cultures β specifically plain yogurt with added whole fruit. His stated reasoning is that these foods “feed the gut,” one of the three precepts of his Metabolic Matrix.
He adds a caveat, attributing it to his own research: commercial flavored yogurts often contain dead cultures and hidden sugar, which he says undermines the fermented-food benefit. His recurring example is strawberry yogurt, which he describes as ultra-processed by virtue of its added sugar. (For that warning, see “Robert Lustig on Health-Halo Products: warns against.”)
