Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on AI as a medical second opinion: recommends

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says AI gives patients “a second opinion that is much better informed than any doctor in the country” and can “free us from medical tyranny,” per AI Weekly’s account of his remarks at the September 29, 2026 MAHA Summit. He pledged that “by the time we leave, every American will have access on their cell phones to their own medical records.”

Kennedy’s stated reasoning is that AI models synthesize medical knowledge more comprehensively than any individual physician and that patient access to their records plus AI review will empower patients against what he calls unchecked medical authority. He also said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told him that diagnosing or prescribing without checking AI is now malpractice — a claim neither Altman nor OpenAI publicly confirmed in the coverage. Six physician groups (AMA, AAP, AAFP, ACOG, ACP, ACS) jointly refuted the remarks on September 30, saying such claims “diminish physician expertise and risk undermining patients’ trust,” per Becker’s.
