Mark Hyman on Medically Tailored Meals and Produce Prescriptions: recommends

In his September 2024 testimony before the House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee, Hyman urged Congress to expand demonstrations and reimbursement for medically tailored meals, produce-prescription programs, nutrition counseling, and group lifestyle programs.

His stated reasoning was economic as well as medical: he cited estimates — attributed in his testimony — that providing medically tailored meals to roughly six million qualifying Americans could save approximately $14 billion annually. The recommendation extends his “food as medicine” framework into policy, making it one of the few Hyman positions that is a legislative ask rather than a personal-health behavior. (Hyman’s position; the savings figure is his testimony claim, not independently verified here.)
