New federal dietary guidelines ('Food is Medicine')
Advancing
Dr. Mehmet Oz has publicly backed the administration’s 2026 Dietary Guidelines, unveiled alongside HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary. The guidelines are described as protein-forward, targeting ultra-processed foods, and easing up on saturated fats.
In a February 2026 Fox News Digital interview, Oz said the guidelines “should have happened a long time ago” and explained his eating philosophy: “if you eat healthy fats, the right amount of carbohydrates and focus on protein, you’re much better off.” He has also criticized what he calls “white foods” β white flour, white rice, white sugar β saying they “tend to create obesity.”
Oz said he is already seeing the food industry push simple carbohydrates in response to the new guidelines, per the Fox News Digital interview.
