Dr. Glaucomflecken (Will Flanary)
Practicing ophthalmologist; the medical system's insider satirist
Will Flanary, M.D. is an Oregon ophthalmologist who, as Dr. Glaucomflecken, plays every character in the American medical system โ the insurer, the administrator, the burned-out doctor, the patient โ in short sketches that document how the system's money machinery actually feels from inside. 1.29 million YouTube subscribers; STAT calls him 'the Internet's funniest doctor.'
Coverage status โ October 2026: Flanary is a practicing ophthalmologist (EyeHealth Northwest, Clackamas County, Oregon) and a full-time second career as medicine’s most-watched satirist: 1.29 million YouTube subscribers, 553 videos, and 689 million views on the channel he started in March 2020 (channel figures, October 2026), with more than 4 million followers across platforms. He is not a MAHA official or a movement spokesman โ he is tracked here because his sketches have become the common language clinicians themselves use to describe what the system does to them and their patients.
The act is a one-man repertory company. Flanary plays the whole hospital โ the emergency physician, the neurologist, the radiologist, the orthopedist โ and, in the sketches this site tracks most closely, the system’s money characters: the insurance representative working a denial script, the private-equity manager, the hospital administrator with a new initiative. His “30 Days of US Healthcare” series walks the machinery piece by piece โ co-payments, deductibles, prior authorization โ in the format of explainer videos the system itself would never make. Faculty and physician forums have noted his recent run of attacks on private equity, insurance companies, and non-competes by name; the comedy lands because the mechanisms in it are real, and the exaggeration is in the delivery, not the diagnosis.
His authority on the patient side is lived. Trained at Texas Tech and Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, with residency at the University of Iowa (2017), Flanary is a two-time testicular cancer survivor โ diagnosed first as a medical student, again during residency โ and a survivor of sudden cardiac arrest, saved by his wife Kristin’s CPR. The comedy began as a coping outlet for those years, and the patient he plays is drawn from the chair he has sat in.
Why tracked here: the MAHA argument about American medicine โ that a system built around insurers, administrators, and private equity produces absurdity as a business model โ is made by many people on this site as policy. Flanary makes it as documentary comedy, from inside the exam room, to an audience of millions of the clinicians the reformers need onside. Where his sketches make factual claims about how coverage, billing, or ownership works, this site attributes the claim to the sketch and states the documented mechanism separately.
